GENITAL SURGERY
Mr Adams and Dr Fullarton perform reduction labiaplasty. None of the surgeons at Wellington Plastic Surgery carry out gender reassignment surgery or penis enlargement surgery.
Reduction Labiaplasty:
Reduction labiaplasty is a procedure for women to reduce the size of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and to create symmetry.
The appearance and size of the labia minora can vary greatly. With aging changes or following childbirth the tissue of the labia majora may become more prominent (hypertrophy). It is also common for the tissue to be asymmetrical. Many women find the excess tissue uncomfortable or even painful during exercise or sexual activity. They may also have concerns about the appearance of the excess tissue.
During your consultation your specialist will give you full information about reduction labiaplasty and a nurse will be present during your examination.
The Operation
You can have this operation as a day procedure in our local anaesthetic theatre or under a general anaesthetic in a private hospital. During the operation the labia majora is reduced and then stitched.
The procedure takes approximately 1 hour.
After the operation
Healing is usually rapid but there will be some discomfort for up to 10 days following surgery. Most women are able to return to work within a week. You will need to avoid vigorous exercise and certain activities for up to a month after surgery.
Risk of complications
There is a risk of complications with all surgery. Your specialist will inform you fully at your consultation about any possible complications from labiaplasty surgery.
