Overview

Mini-abdominoplasty is not such extensive surgery as abdominoplasty, and it is often combined with liposuction. You can have a mini-abdominoplasty for abdomen reshaping when you have relatively little looseness in the skin of your upper abdomen.

The operation

This operation is carried out under a general anaesthetic in a private hospital.

The incision across your abdomen is shorter than for a full abdominoplasty. Some of your skin is removed from above the pubic hair up to the belly button. This allows tightening of the muscles there. By shifting your belly button down a couple of centimetres, the loose skin above it can be tightened.

Liposuction can be helpful for making your abdomen more smoothly contoured.

After the operation
You usually stay 1 night in hospital after the operation, but the procedure can be performed on a day-stay basis. Most people get back to normal levels of activity 3 to 4 weeks after the operation. However, you need to restrict vigorous exercise such as gym work for at least 6 weeks.

Results

The operation leaves a scar passing just above the pubic hair. The outcome for you is:

  • your excess soft tissue has gone
  • you have a flat tummy with tightened muscles
  • you are able to wear the clothes you want.
