HOURS:

Business hours are 8.30 am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.   If you are a patient and have had a procedure either in rooms or at main theatre please refer to the post op after hours information you have been given.  If you have an emergency please dial 111.

APPOINTMENTS:

All appointments (excluding Cosmetic) will require a referral from your GP or Specialist.  Once we have your referral it will be triaged by our nursing team.  We will then contact you in regards to an appointment. If we are unable to accept your referral for any reason we will contact the referrer. The turn around time from the time we receive your referral to calling you is approximately 3-4 days, unless urgent.

OUT OF TOWN:

If you are travelling from out of town and need to book flights, please ensure you book Flexi-fare flights so that in the event of any clinic date changes or operational date changes (which can happen) then you are in a better position to change flight dates/times.

PARKING:

You can usually find an “on street public park” in Murphy, Pipitea or Molesworth Street. The best way to confirm time restrictions and prices of a parking space is by entering your bay number into a parking machine or using the “Pay my Park” app. There is also Hill Street and Tinakori Rd for parking- they are a wee walk.

Wilson Parking has public parking in Murphy Street opposite the back of the NZ Police National Headquarters.

We are a 6-8 minute walk up from the Wellington Railway station.  If you are being dropped off by car or cab you are best to drive into the bottom of the New World next door then walk around. Another drop off would be Little Pipitea Street - this comes down the side of our building.  We do apologise but the new cycle lanes are making it a little difficult to be dropped off in front of the building.

BATHROOM:

This is located on the ground floor of the building through the door opposite the lifts in the corner.

All our staff are fully vaccinated.  Wellington Plastic Surgery Institute supports vaccination as protection against Covid19.

  • Sanitise your hands

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT:

Due to past Covid lock downs, staffing and the reduced number of Plastic Surgeons in the Wellington region our waiting lists at times can be long. We can put you on a wait list and move your booking forward should a cancellation come up. Please bring along your list of questions or concerns to your appointment to discuss with your surgeon. If you are on blood thinners it is appreciated if you could  let the receptionist know at the time of your appointment being made.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY CONSULTATION?

You can expect to be treated with respect, dignity and privacy with total confidentiality. Your surgeon will explain the procedure/surgery that you are about to undertake along with any risks that may be involved. Your surgeon is there to listen to your concerns and put your mind at ease. You can expect to be fully informed.

RISKS:

Any surgery comes with an amount of risk or complication. This will depend on the type of procedure and your surgeon will discuss this with you.

Typical discomforts include

  • Nausea/vomiting ( if you have had a general anaesthetic)
  • Possible sore throat ( if a tube has been used in your windpipe)
  • Pain and discomfort around the incision site – this can be controlled with pain killers
  • Swelling

Risks can include

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Clotting
  • Reaction to anesthesia

MEDICATIONS – should I stop anything?

Your surgeon needs to know of any medications you are on. This includes blood thinners and anti-inflammatories. If you are on a blood thinner you may be asked to stop taking this prior to surgery. This will be discussed at the time of consultation, however when making your appointment it would be helpful if you could advise the receptionist if you are on blood thinners just in case we are looking at doing a procedure on the day of your consultation.
