We are bound by the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 which sets standards on handling personal information collected from patients. As part of our commitment to providing quality healthcare we need to maintain records pertaining to your medical treatment.
Your records are handled with the utmost respect for your privacy. Staff are bound by confidentiality agreements and the Privacy Code and principles. An up to date copy of the privacy principles is available at reception.
We may need to collect and store certain information about you from yourself and or 3rd party medical agencies to help us to provide professional and safe treatment. An example of this may be a referral from your doctor, lab results (blood or histology), scan results or further information needed pertaining to your treatment. We undertake to only collect information relevant to your care and only use this for its intended purposes.
There may be times when we need to disclose your personal information from your medical file. This will not be done without your consent. However, there may be occasions where we will be required to release your details irrespective of consent if required by law to do so.
We take security seriously and have in place appropriate systems to minimise the likelihood of unauthorised access to any personal information that we collect or hold.
Under the Privacy Act and as a patient, you have the right to access information we hold concerning you and to request for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
